First Aid at Work Refresher

Course Aim:

To refresh candidates in the procedures required in the event of person(s) taken ill or injured in the workplace.

Overview:

By the end of the course students should be able to:

• Know the action to take in an emergency situation
• Know and demonstrate basic life saving techniques
• Diagnose and deal with injury and illness in the workplace

Suitable for:

First Aiders in the workplace who wish to update their knowledge

The Programme Topic Areas are:

Day 1 - Morning Session

Aims:

• To cover administration procedures and course overview
• the duties of a first aider
• respiration and hypoxia
• the circulation system

General Objectives:

• Know the requirements of the first aid at work course
• Appreciate the responsibilities and duties of a first aider 
• Understand the respiratory system 
• Know how to deal with unconsciousness 
• Demonstrate recovery position 
• Know how to preserve life 
• Perform a top to toe survey

Day 1 - Afternoon Session

Aims:

• To cover CPR
• first aid equipment
• wounds and bleeding
• burns and scalds

General Objectives:

• Know the resuscitation procedure
• Know how to treat burns
• Know the resuscitation procedure
• Know the general treatment for burns and scalds

Day 2 - Morning Session

Aims:

• To review previous day content
• To cover - fractures
• soft tissue injuries
• dislocations
• major illnesses
• poisons

General Objectives:

• The types, causes and treatment of fractures
• How to treat soft tissue injuries
• How poisons enter the body

Day 2 - Afternoon Session
