You will learn how the legal system works and how it affects the
individual. By the end of the course you will have developed
knowledge and understanding of legal principles, sources of law,
the machinery of justice and legal personnel. Your study will
include the following: Unit 1: The English legal system; Unit 2:
Sources of law; Unit 3: Criminal law; Unit 4: Criminal law (special
paper study).
There is no formal coursework assessment on this course but you
will undergo a number of timed assessments.
Your Law AS level can be a stand-alone qualification or lead on to A2 study. As part of your studies you will visit various legal institutions such as Crown Courts, the Old Bailey and Westminster. You will have your own specialist personal tutor who you will meet individually or as part of a group tutorial and they will help you set review and achieve your targets. There is an extensive programme of support to help you make higher education decisions and move on to university. The vast majority of A level students progress successfully to higher education.There is an extensive programme of enrichment opportunities on offer and you will be encouraged to select from a range including volunteering, work experience, sport and performing.
Six GCSEs grades A* to C including English Language. A minimum of a D grade at AS allows you to progress on to your second year of study.
You could progress to a degree course in Law or other subjects such as Criminology. It could also help with progression in a number of legal-related careers including the police force and probation service.
