This specialist printmaking course is aimed at individuals who already know the basics of printmaking but would love to develop more advanced knowledge and greater proficiency with their own printmaking skills. It is hoped that this course can help to extend the skills in a traditional craft which is becoming increasingly popular with artists. The course is designed to allow you to explore a range of different printmaking techniques and processes. Over a number of weeks you will be given the opportunity to develop these skills resulting in the production of a series of images that demonstrate your own practical application of the print processes.

The course is designed to allow you to explore a range of different printmaking techniques and processes. Over a number of weeks you will be given the opportunity to develop these skills resulting in the production of a series of images that demonstrate your own practical application of the print processes.
You will get to experiment with a variety of printmaking
processes and learn how to safely use the specialist printmaking
workshop equipment and media. You will be helped to develop a range
of artistic skills and techniques that should enable you to begin
printmaking on your own or provide you with a starting point to
explore and develop your own skills in the future such as health
and safety etching using safe etching techniques on copper plate
steel plate and aluminimum plate lino printing techniques
monoprinting and collographs.
The course is designed to give you a practical hands-on approach to
learning printmaking techniques. There will be a mix of learning
methods including workshop activity practical demonstrations and
group critiques. There is no formal assessment but you will get
regular constructive feedback and guidance from your tutor.
You will have access to the creative expertise of our talented tutors and access to our specialist printmaking facilities. A specialist print tutor will demonstrate a number of essential skills techniques and practical applications that will help you in the production of your own prints. This course should give you the confidence and competence to produce a series of good quality prints it is also a great way to meet other aspiring local artists and printmakers!
There are no specific entry requirements however some basic prior experience of printmaking and an aptitude or passion for art would be advantageous (a short telephone interview with the tutor is required to determine suitability and provide guidance). Printing consumables are not included in the course fee you can opt to provide your own or pay for consumables through the College.
This course provides a broad grounding to printmaking techniques and can easily compliment other skills and further courses in drawing painting and design-based disciplines. Students who complete this course may wish to consider studying Further or Higher Education courses or may wish to join the ‘Printmaker’s Open Studio’.
