This course allows you to further develop your beauty therapy
skills and techniques. You will be taught about Health and Safety
in the salon, and consulting and advising clients on treatments.
You will develop your skills in massage techniques including:
Swedish massage, Indian head massage, reflexology and aromatherapy
while learning new techniques in facial and body electics,
non-surgical face-lifts, microdermabrasion, depilation and
electrolysis. In addition you will be taught body massage,
improving the face and body with electrotherapy and providing
electrical epilation. Throughout the course you will run commercial
salons at the college to maintain your Level 2 skills. From your
work placement you will learn abut supervising in salon management
and also about salon finance and business management.
You will learn from experienced staff in our modern salons using
the latest equipment. You will observe demonstrations and learn
through student participation to develop practical skills and
competency. You will develop your knowledge through e-learning
systems and by traditional teaching methods. About three-quarters
of your time is spent on practical salon activities and the
remaining quarter is spent in the classroom. One day a week is a
study day. In addition you will have 10 days of work placement
which is spread over 10 weeks. Staff will help you to find a
placement and this experience will help prepare you for work. You
will need to produce a portfolio of practical evidence which is
monitored by our external verifier.
You will be taught by experienced staff in a well-stocked salon. You will develop a combination of skills and experience. There is an exceptionally high progression rate into further study or work in the hair or beauty industries.
To study this course you will require Beauty Therapy Level 2 Diploma and Functional Skills qualifications. You should have a good reference, creativity ambition and the willingness to accept new challenges. It is essential to purchase personal equipment and salon work wear costing £300-£400. You may be able to access a course costs bursary for a contribution towards your costs.
This course can lead to work as a beauty therapist, either freelance or in a variety of organisations including salons, health farms, leisure centres and hotels. There is also the chance to progress to further study in complementary therapy hairdressing or related subjects.
