Children’s Care, Learning and Development BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 Course Details To provide a recognised qualification for those wishing to work in child care, eg Nursery Nursing or Early Years related careers. The programme provides you with a recognised qualification for entry into Higher Education. Students will obtain the Diploma on completion of eighteen units consisting of Core Units and Specialist Units. The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma consists of 7 core units plus specialist units of study. Core units of study: Positive relationships for children’s care, learning and development. Positive environments for children’s care, learning and development. Promoting children’s development. Reflecting on and developing practice for children 0-8 years. Protecting children. Safeguarding children. Children’s learning activities and play. In addition to the above, Functional Skills in Maths and English will also be delivered. Work placements are an essential part of the course and students need to gain 800 hours in an Early Years setting. This will provide students with the opportunities to link theoretical knowledge into a practical setting. A Course For Students aiming for careers in the Childcare sector, eg Nursery Nursing, Early Years related careers and Primary School teaching. Entry Requirements All applicants must display a genuine interest in working with children and have 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, one of which must be English, or a BTEC Level 2 qualification with an average grade of ‘merit’ or equivalent plus English at Level 2. Assessment The course is designed to integrate all the areas of study, emphasising the importance of linking theoretical knowledge to practical settings. Throughout the programme students are continuously assessed using a variety of methods, e.g. assignments, practical assessments, presentations etc.
