The Programme

There is a combination of theory and practical covering the fundamentals of vehicle body repair and refinishing. It allows the students to develop skills such as panel fitting, welding and the removal and replacement of panels. It also covers vehicle paint applications and the preparation of panels and is carried out in a modern and realistic workshop. This course is run over four days a week, allowing students to secure a placement for work experience on the fifth day.

The Programme Content

The Award is currently suitable as the vocation subject based learning component of Foundation Learning. Units will be selected that relate to the repair of vehicle in the accident industry.

Entry Requirements

Although there are no minimum grades for entry, students must demonstrate a desire to work in the vehicle body repair and refinishing industry and wish to progress to an Apprenticeship. Ideally students should have a minimum of D grades if they wish to progress to an Apprenticeship.

Costs

Students will need to purchase their own safety equipment such as boots, overalls and a dust mask costing approximately £60. An additional fee of £100 will be charged to candidates and will be required to purchase materials that are required as part of the programme.

Progression

Students who complete the course can enter the industry as a semi-skilled technician, as a second year Apprentice - depending on work placement - or progress to a Level 2 course.
