It encourages the student to develop skills that are required when working on a modern vehicle and assists them in starting a career.
The Programme Content
Level 1 Award in Motor Vehicle Studies
Learners must achieve a minimum of 12 credits. Four credits must
come from Mandatory Group A and a further eight credits from
Optional Units in Group B.

Entry Requirements
Although there are no minimum grades for entry, students must demonstrate a desire to work in the vehicle maintenance and repair industry, ideally wanting to progress to an Apprenticeship.
Costs
Students will need to purchase safety shoes and a pair of overalls. There will be a number of trips during the year that may incur a cost.

Progression
Students who complete the course can enter the industry as a
semi-skilled technician, as an Apprentice - depending on work
placement - or progress to the full time Level 2 Certificate in
Maintenance and Repair subject to interview.
Successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma in Motor Vehicle
Studies provides a sound preparation for further vocational
training, such as continuing to other related qualifications at
Level 2 or appropriate Apprenticeships at Level 2 such as:
Vehicle Fitting
Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
Vehicle Body and Paint Operations
Roadside Assistance and Recovery
Vehicle Parts Operations
Vehicle Sales
Length of Study
One year, three days a week.
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2013 / 2014 academic year.
