This course covers both underpinning knowledge and practical
use of access equipment.

Risk Assessments - Method Statements - Safe Systems of Work
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (P.U.W.E.R)
Duties of Employer and Employee
Providing understanding and knowledge of Hierarchy of Control and
appropriate selection of correct equipment needed to minimise the
risks of a potential accident in the workplace. This covers from a

Duties of Employer and Employee
Providing understanding and knowledge of Hierarchy of Control and
appropriate selection of correct equipment needed to minimise the
risks of a potential accident in the workplace. This covers from a
hop-up, ladders, mobile towers to scaffolding.
Practical activities include:
Safe use of all access equipment in the workplace including;
Use of hop-ups and other low level working platforms
Using and assembling podium type platforms
Erecting ladders (inc. double and triple extension types) and step
ladders
Safe assembly of tower scaffolding (and awareness)
Methods of moving equipment
End of course appraisal/assessment
The course has been designed to assist both employers and employees
who have certain elements of their working practices involving
ladders, scaffolding and working platforms.
There are two main elements:
Theory:
Hazards and risks arising from the use of ladders and access
equipment;
Methods of erecting and dismantling working platforms;
How to store, handle and transport equipment;
How to inspect and test working platforms and ladders for
damage;
General conditions, provision and maintenance of all appropriate
access equipment;
The use of suitable personal protective equipment (including
footwear and clothing).
Practical Assessments:
Erecting and dismantling working platforms;
Erecting and dismantling ladders and access steps.
Each candidate will be assessed on their practical abilities
throughout the delivery of this programme.
