on employers to ensure that any employee who is liable to be
exposed to asbestos receives adequate training. It is a legal
requirement from the HSE that anyone working on buildings built or
refurbished before the year 2000 should receive training, as
Asbestos could be present.
The training is designed for delegates working in construction,
facilities and maintenance industries. The syllabus covers the
following topics:
What is asbestos?
The health effects of asbestos
Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM)
Asbestos in buildings
Current legislation
The asbestos removal process
Safe working practices
Control measures and protective equipment

which remains the single biggest cause of work related deaths in
the UK. Each week approximately 20 tradesmen die from this hidden
killer.
