The Programme

A hairdressing Apprentice will work as a salon junior, assisting senior staff while training as a junior stylist. Advanced Apprentices develop their cutting and colouring skills so they can carry out all the latest fashion techniques and determine the looks of the future. The Apprentice will need to look smart and have good communication skills to understand exactly what the customer wants in order to make them happy. The Programme

A hairdressing Apprentice will work as a salon junior, assisting senior staff while training as a junior stylist. Advanced Apprentices develop their cutting and colouring skills so they can carry out all the latest fashion techniques and determine the looks of the future. The Apprentice will need to look smart and have good communication skills to understand exactly what the customer wants in order to make them happy. You will study a minimum of nine units leading to the NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing. Key skills will also be studied alongside hairdressing, strengthening your employability. Assessment is by practical observations (some of which will be carried out in your salon of employment), assignments, oral questions and written papers.

The Programme Content

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements will be a Level 1 NVQ in Hairdressing or GCSE Grade or above in English and Maths.
You will also be required to have employment within a salon working a minimum of 16 hours per week to support you in developing your hairdressing and customer care skills.

Costs

A basic hairdressing kit and professional uniform will be required, this will be discussed at interview.

Progression

You may progress onto a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing to obtain a senior stylist position and further career opportunities.

Length of Study

Two years.
