It continues with a look at debugging approaches based ion problem
type.
Then the largest section of the class covers the practical tools
for collecting
structured diagnostic data on WebSphere for z/OS problems, and
describes how to
analyze the output data to debug the problem encountered.
Two thirds of the class time consists of practical lab exercises
which apply
the techniques discussed to debugging real applications.
This course is suitable for System programmers or administrators
with a good practical knowledge of
administering OS/390 or z/OS systems who are responsible for
problem resolution
in a WebSphere for z/OS environment.
After completing this course, you should be able to:
- Apply a problem determination methodology to solving WebSphere
for z/OS
problems - Identify the technical skills needed to institute that problem
determination
methodology - Format problem symptoms and diagnostic data so as to ensure
that IBM software
support can provide the greatest benefit in resolving a problem - Identify the key components and functional areas in a WebSphere
for z/OS
runtime that most affect problem resolution - Recognize the relevant symptoms of a problem and use them to
direct debugging
strategy - Apply IBM recommended diagnostic flow charts to simplify problem solving
- Implement and use the relevant technology to assist in debug
including
applicable commands, tools, traces, logs, and dumps - Apply problem avoidance techniques to minimize the chances of
problems
occurring during installation, migration, application deployment, and
runtime execution in WebSphere for z/OS
This course includes the following modules:
Introduction to WebSphere for z/OS Debugging
- Problem Determination (PD) Resources
- Problem Areas in WebSphere Technology
- Using Problem Symptoms to Guide WebSphere Troubleshooting
- Tools and Utilities for WebSphere PD
- Problem Avoidance Techniques
