Course Content

To achieve the full qualificationapplicants will need to study and achieve 12 units. However, applicants can also opt to study for less than 12 units and if
successful they will receive a separate certificate for the units achieved.

Mandatory Units covered will be:
• Reflective Practice in the Early Years Sector
• Values and Principles of the Early Years Sector
• Managing the Early Years Curriculum
• Safeguarding the Health and Safety of Children
• Working with Families in the Early Years Sector
• Managing and Leading an Integrated Setting in the Early Years Sector

6 other optional units.

Course Aims

This new Level 4 Higher Professional diploma (HPD) in Early Years is a new qualification for individuals who aspire to higher level roles in the childcare and education profession.

The qualification offers a challenging new programme which offers high level academic focus, vocational knowledge and skills. The HPD focuses on:

• The application of the key values and principles of early years practice
• The theories and practice of child development, learning and behaviour management
• The skills needed to lead teams and work in partnership with families, parents/carers and other organisations

Special Features

• The HPD facilitates a fast-track onto the 2nd year of related Foundation Degrees.
• Applying theory learned to practice facilitated by work placement/employment in childcare.
