Course Content

This Level 1 Diploma in Childcare consists of units that are completed during the year. Examples of some of the topics covered are:

  • Caring For Your Child.
  • Intellectual Development.
  • Caring For Your Baby.
  • Understanding the Importance of Play.
  • Using Craft Activities with Children.

If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade C or above in Maths and/or English you will be required to complete the relevant Essential Skills qualification. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.

Course Aims

To prepare students to work in a supervised role, competently, safely and effectively with children aged 0-16 and to provide students with vital parenting skills.

Special Features

Experiencing working with children is an important aspect of the course. Students will have the opportunity to spend 4 weeks throughout the course in a two different childcare settings. Educational visits and guest speakers are an important aspect of the course and these help relate the theory learnt in class to practice.

A variety of assessment methods are used in order to complete the course, this includes project work, reports and practical activities including:

  • Work Based Assessment.
  • Reflective Accounts.
  • Displays.
  • Activity Plans.
  • Portfolio Building.
