ApprenticeshipsNI Level 3 in Bricklaying combines the practical hands-on experience of the workplace with the knowledge and understanding and practical skills gained in the college classroom and workshops.

How do I join? • You must be in paid employment at least 21 hours per week including college day release. • You must be aged 16–24. • Complete an application form and attend an interview. • Take part in an aptitude test (if applicable).

What will I study? An ApprenticeshipsNI Framework which consists of: A competence based element •NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying. A knowledge based element Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying. Employment rights and responsibilities Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) are a compulsory part of all Apprenticeship programmes that show that the apprentice has had a full induction to the employing company and training programme, and is aware of the essential workplace rights and responsibilities. Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT (if applicable).

Construction Skills- CSkills NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Brickwork units of study include: Construct masonry structures in brick including cavity wall structures, block work structures and solid wall structures. Form door and window openings and form joint finishes. In addition you will be required to read and extract information from drawings and specifications, conform to general workplace safety guidelines, security and waste management controls. At Level 3 you will learn how to construct complex masonry structures such as arches, chimneys, fireplaces decorative features and curved walling.

What support is available while I am on the course? You will be allocated a personal tutor to help you throughout the course. The college also offers learning support and guidance.

How can I succeed on this programme? • Punctuality and 100% attendance at your vocational day release and Essential Skills (if applicable). • Demonstrate commitment to your course. • Appropriate behaviour and maturity. • Ability to work with others. • Be physically fit and have a good head for heights. • Be prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions. • Be precise and accurate and be able to follow instructions. • Safety conscious especially when working at heights and carrying loads.

What will I gain? • Construction Skills –CSkills NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying. • Construction skills City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying. • City & Guilds Essential Skills Numeracy/Literacy, ICT (if applicable). • ApprenticeshipsNI Full Framework certificate.

Employers There is NO COST to the apprentice or the employer for ApprenticeshisNI training. The only cost to the employer is the apprentice’s salary. An Employer Financial Incentive is available on achievement by the Apprentice of full Level 2 and/or Level 3 Framework. This incentive ranges from £250 to £1,500 depending on the complexity and level of apprenticeship undertaken.

Assessment Methods

Continuous assessment throughout the course of practical workshop and theory tasks. Evidence of competency can be obtained through observations in the workplace, physical products of work, reports, plans, photographs, online assessments, witness testimony, discussion and questioning.
