Wedding and Portrait Photography, Short Course Programme

This exciting, practical course is for the serious amateur or recent graduate who wants to take great portraits and then, possibly, go on to start a successful business as a portrait or wedding photographer.

You will learn about camera handling, autofocus, exposure and location lighting, with plenty of time for you to practice your new skills using professional models. The work in the studio will be supported by taking photographs on location so that you can experience the pressures of working outside (whatever the weather!) and how to cope with shy individuals, happy couples and boisterous group shots. The course will therefore combine the tips and tricks of camera handling with the skills required for working with and directing a demanding client. The sessions with your camera will be complimented by working in the computer suite to edit pictures, convert and enhance RAW files and export these as jpegs.

During the course there will be a talk from a wedding photographer who will explain their approach and experiences, as well as guidance on how to develop your marketing and business skills to find your first paying customers.

By the end of the course you will have the skills to make exciting and sellable pictures.

This course will be taught in the photography department of Nottingham Trent University where generations of photographers have learnt their trade. To attend this course you must have some familiarity with Photoshop and your own digital camera.
