This is a one day training course designed for all those using Aluminium Phosphide in pest control situations such as agriculture, game keeping, groundsmen, greenkeepers and anyone responsible for any aspects of rodent control.

This one day training course is mainly classroom based with a mixture of theory and practical outdoor demonstrations. The training will equip you with the knowledge and skills to take the City and Guilds NPTC assessment.

Assessment
This is an independent assessment arranged by the NPTC at a mutually convenient date.

Place of study
Study takes place at the Brackenhurst campus. Located near the market town of Southwell and just 14 miles from Nottingham city centre, Brackenhurst is an idyllic 200 hectare estate with specialist units, making it a unique place to learn. Brackenhurst benefits from:

Course content:

  • Legal requirements and implications related to the use for Aluminium Phosphide
  • Health and Safety guidance
  • Understand which pests can be controlled by this method
  • Safe storage, transportation and disposal of the product
  • Understanding the product label
  • Emergency procedures
  • PPE requirements and symptoms of phosphine poisoning
  • Demonstrate filling, using and emptying applicators and containers
  • The importance of record keeping in relation to legislative obligations

Equipment:

Although the course is mainly classroom based there will be practical outdoor demonstrations and delegates are advised to bring suitable outdoor clothing as well as:

  • boots and personal protective equipment (coveralls and nitrile gloves).
  • full face mask with B2 and P3 filters, if available.
  • spade and dibber.
