Procurement Strategy and Risk, Certificate

This module is drawn from our suite of Construction Management masters programmes. The module examines different strategies which can be adopted by the client to procure the design and construction of a project. A successful outcome will depend upon matching the key elements of the business case and the client’s attitude to risk to an appropriate procurement strategy.

This course will:

• develop your understanding of the implications of the client's business case and the resulting prioritised objectives and parameters for project procurement
• develop your ability to establish and evaluate the exposure to the client to project risk and to identify the client's attitude to that risk
• develop your knowledge and understanding of the options commonly-adopted in the UK for the procurement of the design and construction processes
• develop your ability to select an appropriate procurement strategy(s) given the client's business case, prioritised objectives, parameters and attitude to risk.

When you have studied this module you should be able to:

• understand the implications of the prioritised project objectives and client's attitude to risk
• develop a comprehensive knowledge of the structure and characteristics of the commonly-adopted UK strategies for the procurement of project design and project construction
• understand techniques to manage client risk
• understand methods available to assist the appropriate selection of consultants and constructors.
