This lively week is ideal for photographers who want to do more with their cameras and discuss photographic culture with like minds. If you know the basics of your camera but want to improve you will be enthusiastically welcomed to the course, regardless of the camera you own - you certainly don't need to have high-specification equipment to enrol, and the course is focused more on the creative than the technical. You might have recently discovered digital photography and are looking to focus your enthusiasm, or you may have just made the step-up to using a dSLR and are looking to put it through its paces.
Each day will be spent looking at a particular area of photography, and will start with examining the work of famous photographers for inspiration. You will then focus on the practical assignment of the day - a series of projects designed to challenge and inspire your creativity. The second part of each day will consist of uploading the work you have produced, thinking about the selection process, and editing and tweaking your photographs. The subject areas the course will cover include:
- Documentary photography
- People and the city
- Street photography and the social landscape
- Everyday minimalism
- Landscape photography
At the end of the course you will have an expanded portfolio of exciting new images, a broader awareness of photographic culture in general, and an understanding of some of the key themes in contemporary and historical photography. Experience of Adobe Photoshop is useful, but not essential.
