The MSc Marketing suite of courses consists of the straight MSc Marketing course and one specialist route, Advertising and Communications.

About the course

The routes of study are linked and share six of the eight modules. Two modules will specifically relate to your choice of route. Further details of the modules can be found under the course tab. You can choose to study either MSc Marketing or the specialist route, MSc Marketing (Advertising and Communications).

1. MSc Marketing
This is aimed at students who are interested in a general career in marketing, for example as a marketing manager or who may not wish to specialise. You will consider aspects of marketing management and how marketing operates in a variety of different contexts.

2. MSc Marketing (Advertising and Communications)
This route is aimed at students with a particular interest in marketing communications and who are aiming for a career in advertising or brand management.

No matter which option you select, you will study a specialist marketing programme that has been designed to provide the skills, knowledge, understanding, practical abilities and confidence required by high-achieving marketing professionals in the global economy. Consultation with the marketing industry ensures that what you study is contemporary and that the course as a whole delivers what employers want from graduates, whilst maintaining the academic content required for study at this level.

This course provides students with accreditation towards the Chartered Institute of Marketing's Professional Certificate award. Students graduating from our MSc Marketing courses are exempt from two of the four modules.

As a student on a MSc Marketing programme you will be entitled to a free iPad to enhance your learning experience. Students will be provided with the iPad upon commencing the course to access the latest learning materials. Additionally, students will also be supplied with a Blackwell's book voucher.

Students on this course are also eligible to apply for a scholarship from Nottingham Business School. For full details on eligibility and how much is available visit the postgraduate fees and funding section of our website.

Course content
The programme is founded on a dynamic relationship between marketing theory and the practice of marketing. Central to this is the view that marketing should be conceptualised as more than a function or a series of isolated tasks - it is also an organisational strategy and way of thinking that can be shared across the whole organisation. Your modules therefore follow a structured thematic approach that explores core marketing tasks but in a way that emphasises the complexity of these and the need to use judgement and creativity. Consequently it is our intention that you will not leave NBS thinking you know and hence can do marketing through blindly following a textbook approach. Instead you will be sensitive to complex internal and external environments, and seek to practice marketing in an integrative manner.

During the year you will study eight modules; three in term one, three in term two and two in term three (there are only two in term three as the Applied / Consultancy Project is worth double the amount of credits). Teaching typically takes place during three days of the week leaving with you time to read, study and prepare for your assignments.

  • Developing the Effective and Responsible Practitioner
