Interior Design Portfolio, Short Course Programme

With industry competition at an all time high, where jobs are in demand and talented designers readily available, providing as much experience as possible is an absolute necessity. This course will provide hands on experience of all the relevant stages of a medium-sized interior design project from briefing stage to design development.

If you are thinking of starting a career as an interior designer and would like to get a feel for it before committing to a degree course, wish to take up interior design as a professional pastime or if you want to build on a portfolio then this is the course for you. You will be mentored through the many stages of an interior design project, with each module involving a lecture then practice.

The brief is to design a high street cafe, within the same trading market as Costa Coffee or Nero. You will be provided with a client brief and will be expected to carry out a level of practical study for the project, develop a design scheme and produce presentation and construction documentation.

The course will be delivered through the use of lectures, technical workshops, demonstrations, homework, visits and 1-2-1 critiques. Modules will cover:

• Practical research
• Presentation images, mood and material boards
• Construction drawings
• Fixtures, fittings and equipment documentation (FF&E)

You will leave with the following skills:

• Photoshop

• AutoCad
• Spaceplanning
• An understanding of interior design project stages
• Understanding of building regulations
• Understanding of building control requirements
• Sketchup
