This level 1 qualification covers the basic technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry focusing on the ‘Fast Fit’ sector. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots. Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage. What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

A minimum of three GCSEs grade D-G in mathematics, English and science. All candidates will be assessed on an individual basis taking account of previous experience and knowledge in the Motor vehicle industry. Candidates will be considered for interview if they can produce a good school report

What does the course involve?

It is a learning programme which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following: • Light Vehicle Construction and Routine Maintenance • Operating Principles of Light Vehicle Engines, Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems • Operating Principles and Maintenance of Light Vehicle Transmission Systems and Electrical and Electronic Systems

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? Satisfactory completion of this programme, additional interview and the associated Employability Skills programme will allow you to progress on Level 1 Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair: Light Vehicle Route.
