As well as learning about Sport during the course, you will be able to access both onsite and offsite facilities including an onsite 3G football pitch and gym and an offsite gym which the students are able to join at a discounted price. During the course you will be given an excellent sporting opportunities including spending time with the Watford Football Academy, Stevenage Borough football team and experts in sport coaching.

To join the course you will need at least four GCSEs at grade D (including English and Maths) or above, or a Level 1 BTEC Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area.

What does the course involve?

This programme is designed to appeal to learners who are interested in achieving a national qualification in sport through studying the performance aspect of sport. The course offers students an opportunity to study sport in the context of the exercise and fitness industry. It is a practical course including a variety of sport-related modules and the chance to gain a range of additional qualifications. Students will also have an opportunity to complete the City and Guilds award in Personal and Social Development. The course is delivered by outstanding teachers and mentors. A range of study methods is used including lectures, practical lessons and tutorials; in addition, students will undertake work experience in the industry to improve their employability levels. The course will run on a number of days a week and will require approximately 12 hours of study per week. Continuous assessment includes assignments, written and practical tests and work experience.

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? Students may progress to the higher Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sport. Alternatively they may seek employment within the sports industry. This course can lead to careers in teaching, sports coaching, the leisure industry, fitness advice, sports journalism, Local Authority sport and recreation departments, the Armed Forces, the police, sports therapy and sports research. The students throughout the course will be given excellent employer links and contacts to discuss their own personal future plans and receive advice.
