Do you enjoy and want to be part of the public services? If yes then this is the course for you. As well as learning about public service during the course, you will be able to access both onsite and offsite facilities including an onsite 3G football pitch and gym and an offsite gym which the students are able to join at a discounted price. During the course you will be given excellent opportunities to attend many trips outside of college including a trip to Bassingbourn to meet and train with the armed forces.

What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

At least four GCSEs at grade C (including English and Maths) or above or a Level 2 BTEC Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level. You will also need to commit to an additional 12 hours of study per week.

What does the course involve?

This course is aimed at anyone considering a career in the uniformed Public Services. It provides background information, experience and direct contact with Public Services including police, fire service, ambulance crew and the army. The course is to help the learner make an informed career decision and gain knowledge/experience of the entry requirements going into the public services. The course is taught by outstanding teachers and mentors with over 70 years experience within public services. The Modules studied will include: Employment In Uniformed PS/Career Planning For PS, Improving Health & Fitness For Entry In PS & Expedition Skills In PS. The course is a mixture of theory and practical lessons including lectures, practical lessons and tutorials; in addition, students will undertake work experience in the industry to improve their employability levels. The course will run on a number of days a week and will require approximately 12 hours of study per week. Continuous assessment includes assignments, written and practical tests and work experience.

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? Career opportunities exist within the Armed and Emergency services but will depend upon the age and experience of the applicant. You may also progress to further study on a degree programme.
