What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?
Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, you must have an appropriate level of competence in literacy and numeracy and the motivation and commitment to cope with the rigorous demands of the Access programme for direct entry into Higher Education.Applicants are initially invited to a diagnostic session where your skills in literacy and numeracy will be assessed. If successful at this stage you will be invited to a one-to-one interveiw with a member of the Access to HE Core team. You will need to be successful at both stages to be offered a place on the course
What does the course involve?
All Learners take core skills including English and Mathematics GCSE equivalents, Information Technology and Academic and Professional Development. In addition learners choose three specialist modules from the pathway; Humanities and Social Science Professions.The specialist modules include: Legal Environment, Sociology, History and Psychology.

One year learners normally attend four days per week between the hours of 9.15 and 2.45pm although may need to attend five days. In addition you will be expected to do approximately 15 hours per week private study.
What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? For learners who gain a QAA recognised Access Diploma, the choice of subjects that can be studied at Higher Education is very wide. The course is an initial preparation for specialist HE programmes and careers in e.g. Nursing, Midwifery, Radiographer, Science, Law, Business, Teaching, Social Work, as well as more general BA, BSc, Foundation degree and HND programmes. Learners can study locally at North Hertfordshire College, the University of Hertfordshire or the University of Bedfordshire, but many learners go further afield. Recent learners have started courses at Cambridge, Anglian Ruskin, Nottingham and Cardiff.
