Description
Students will engage with a broad-based programme for study in the social sciences with the emphasis placed on investigation and research into human behaviour and the working of society. The development of essential and core skills through active and project based learning are key aims of the programme. The course is equivalent to SCQF level 5/6. Students will aim to complete the full Higher Award in the two main social science subjects of Sociology and Psychology. Units in Politics and History will integrated with associated project based units at SCQF level 6.

This non-advanced course is suitable for people with qualifications at Standard Grade Credit level, Intermediate 2 or National 5, those who have relevant work experience or those who have completed the Introduction to Social Sciences programme.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is aimed at candidates who wish to gain a sound foundation in the social sciences at SCQF level 6 and as a means of progressing to HND Social Sciences.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and includes external end-of-course examinations in both Sociology and Psychology and course work assessment in Politics, History and Communication at Higher (SCQF level 6). Coursework takes the form of essays, reports, structured questions and practical projects. Assessment of student work is undertaken by College staff except the external exams.
PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Students successfully completing this course may progress to the HND Social Sciences.
