ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Typical applicants will be expected to have two Highers. A qualification in English and/ or communication is desirable. Applicants should show an interest in and aptitude for the subject, or have successfully completed the appropriate non-advanced College course having shown good achievement. Fo those returning to education, life skills and experience in the workplace may allow entry subject to availability.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?

This course is aimed at students who would like to gain the relevant competences in aspects of law and legal procedures to progress either directly to a career in a legal or business environment as a paralegal or to a university degree course. Students achieving the HND will also be eligible for four Professional Development Awards approved by the Scottish Paralegal Association and the Law Society of Scotland.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course is mainly assessed on a continuous basis and internal assessment will be carried out by lecturers involved in the courses, following guidelines laid down by SQA and monitored by moderation groups. Assessment may take various forms to meet the differing requirements and will be explained to classes by the lecturer at the beginning of each new unit.

PROGRESSION ROUTES / CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Partnerships with several universities allow successful candidates to be considered for direct entry to years 2 or 3 of degree courses. Successful completion could allow entry to Year 3 of the BA (Hons) Law and Management at The Robert Gordon University via the 2+2 arrangements. Employment opportunities may include employment as paralegals, legal assistants in professional firms and public bodies or in legal departments of larger companies and authorities.
