The Intermediate 2 Course is designed to articulate with the
knowledge and skills developed in Standard Grade Mathematics at
General level and Intermediate 1 Mathematics.
This unit seeks to provide candidates with the opportunity to study
further mathematics with the emphasis on applying mathematics and
statistics to problems and assignments. It is an optional unit of

The Intermediate 2 Course is designed to articulate with the
knowledge and skills developed in Standard Grade Mathematics at
General level and Intermediate 1 Mathematics.
This unit seeks to provide candidates with the opportunity to study
further mathematics with the emphasis on applying mathematics and
statistics to problems and assignments. It is an optional unit of
the Intermediate 2 Mathematics course.
You will be supported throughout the course by a specialist Distance Learning Tutor. Your tutor will contact you (via your College email account) within 7-10 working days of receiving your welcome letter and materials. As you progress they will continue to make regular contact to offer support and guidance, usually by e-mail but sometimes by phone, to ensure you are making good progress and to support your learning throughout. Please note that you must be able to study independently through the course materials.

OUTCOMES
- Perform straightforward calculations in a social context.
- Design and interpret logic diagrams.
- Use formulae in applications.
- Undertake a short statistical assignment.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
While entry is at the discretion of the centre, candidates will normally be expected to have attained one of the following:
- Mathematics 1 (Int 2)
- Mathematics 2 (Int 2)
- equivalent
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should be encouraged to make appropriate use of technology. Calculators can be utilised as powerful tools for processing data, especially in the study of statistics. Candidates should maintain their skills in written and mental calculation, and the use of the calculator should complement and not replace these skills. Candidates should use calculators sensibly and appreciate the need to estimate answers and check calculations.
