Is it for me?

This is a one year course. There are two hour sessions on Mondays after college to learn the skills needed for successful project making, and to use the research facilities in college. In between sessions you work on your own, with occasional meetings with your own supervisor who helps you to keep to your plan. Final presentations and submission of completed projects is in March/April.

Many Year 2 students choose this course to support their university applications and Year 1 students choose it who want to prepare for very selective university application. This course is for anyone who wants to complement their Advanced studies, or to follow their own enthusiasm in any direction.

What’s involved?

Your project can be about anything at all, it does not have to relate to any of your Advanced courses, it can be a hobby or a career aim which fires your enthusiasm, however many students choose a topic which supports their eventual university degree choice, or a creative ambition.

You will produce a project product – either a written dissertation or a film, a piece of creative art or writing, a performance, a business plan, fashion show, anything you choose, (though some writing is involved in all projects).

You will also complete a production log detailing your plans, your progress and how it all turns out and then make a presentation at the end of the course to tell a small audience about your project.

Entry requirements:

5 GCSEs at A* to C

Willingness to work independently, meet deadlines and cope with coursework

A particular interest in the area of study/topic that you wish to explore in depth

Which courses go well with this?

This course combines well with a wide range of Advanced Level courses.

Progression:

The Extended Project complements many of the advanced level course options. Universities view the Extended Project qualification very favourably and it does count as UCAS points.
