This qualification is part of a suite of performance based courses at Level 3. These can be studied together in a combination that suits you. The range includes Certificates/Subsidiary Diplomas in: Dance, Acting and Performing Arts.

(Certificate and Subsidiary Diploma)
Technical Stage Operations
Gain knowledge of the production process, including job and role allocation, the pre-production process and the production week. This covers rigs and fit ups, focus, plot, plus technical and dress rehearsals. You will also cover the use of video and sound in theatre.
Stage Technical Maintenance
You will learn about the maintenance procedures for lighting, sound and stage equipment. You will also learn to assess health and safety, and learn how to use and set up the equipment.
Stage Lighting Operations
This unit provides you with the skills necessary to provide lighting services that can enhance performances.
Production Arts Workshop
Here you will explore a variety of roles in the running of successful theatre productions. You will also help to plan, run and operate on a large performance whilst learning to evaluate your technical work and productions.
(Subsidiary Diploma only) Stage Technology Installation Students will plan and set-up technical equipment to meet a brief whilst learning about operating and assessing venues, health and safety, technical drawing, managing and working in a production team. Stage Lighting Design This section will teach you about the different design approaches necessary for successful lighting in a number of alternative genres. Assistant Stage Manager This unit is designed to give you an overview of the role of Assistant Stage Managers and how they support the production process.Entry Requirements:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C including English Language and Maths (grade C or above preferred) or, Level 2 vocational qualification and English Language GCSE (grade C or above preferred).
If you do not have a grade C or above in English Language or Maths, you will study these subjects as an essential part of your programme of study.
Which courses go well with this?
This course can be combined with a range of other programmes – further Certificates and Subsidiary Diplomas in Performance or Music. Alternatively it can be combined with a wide range of other courses - both AS Levels and BTECs.
Progression
This course could help you gain access to Higher Education/Specialist Institutions and will also prepare you well for working in the industry. Many students have gone on to specialise within the area at Drama School including courses in Lighting Design, Technical Theatre and Theatre and Performance Design.
