This course has been designed for students to gain confidence as an industry professional, work with increasing autonomy and independence, and gain an insight into media cultures and employment opportunities.

During the course students will engage in work-related learning that will meet the demands of the media industry.
In year one, students will explore a variety of vocations within the broadcasting industries to gain a vast amount of knowledge and skills. By year two students can specialise in their chosen area and will focus on audio production.

All students will work from a range of briefs set by industry partners, in co-operation with staff, in preparation for working in the broadcasting sector.

Students will study the following modules:

  • Foundation video
  • Foundation journalism studies
  • Foundation audio
  • Studio project (TV)
  • Print & journals
  • Studio project (radio)
  • Future casting
  • Media investigation
  • Production company
  • Radio management
  • Final major project

Assignments will cover: DJ presenting; radio documentary production; radio drama production; television studio production; radio management; and your own final major project development and production.

Students must have between 100 and 240 UCAS points from the following:

  • At least two 'A' Levels at 'A2'
  • BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in a media-related subject area
  • Progression Diploma with relevant Principal Learning
  • Advanced Diploma with relevant Principal or Additional and Specialist Learning (ASL)
  • International Baccalaureate

Mature students with relevant experience and/or qualifications, including an Access to HE Diploma within a relevant subject area, are welcome to apply. You will be invited to attend an interview.
