Who is this course for?

These schemes allow ‘Qualified Supervisors’ to self-certify that domestic installations are electrically safe and comply with all relevant parts of the Building Regulations, saving valuable time and money for the thousands of firms affected by the change. The Level 2 Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers is suitable for those who carry out electrical work in association with or for their main work activity under the scope of Part P. Successful candidates will have achieved the understanding of a domestic electrical installer (though not an electrician) and will be able to demonstrate their knowledge to be nominated as a ‘Qualified Supervisor’ with a Competent Persons Scheme.

Course description: Unit 1 is specifically designed for those who wish to understand how building regulations apply to domestic electrical installations. This unit is of particular value to all electrical installers, and can be taken on its own or as part of the full qualification depending on a candidate’s existing qualifications, knowledge and experience.  The Level 2 Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers features nine mandatory units. Each one exists as a standalone unit with assessment details attached and can be tackled independently, in any sequence, giving maximum flexibility for the learner.

Assessment:

  • Unit 001: Applicable Building Regulations for Domestic Electrical Installation
  • Unit 002: Electrical Safety legislation, Regulations Standards and Terminology
  • Unit 003: Domestic Electrical Circuit Installation  
  • Unit 004: Installing Domestic Lighting Circuits 
  • Unit 005: Domestic Electrical Earthing and Bonding Requirements
  • Unit 006: Inspecting, Testing and Commissioning Single Phase Domestic Electrical Circuits 
  • Unit 007: Special Locations and Installations Including Kitchens  
  • Unit 008: Domestic Electrical Installation Pre-Work Survey/Inspection 
  • Unit 009: Basic Understanding of 3 Phase

Materials Required:

Candidates will be provided with comprehensive learning materials produced by a awarding bodies lead provider. Standard stationary, a scientific calculator will be provided. All electrical materials and test equipment are provided along with appropriate PPE when undertaking practical exercises in the workshops. All candidates will be required to purchase safety shoes.

Entry Requirements: No formal entry requirements.

Progression: Candidates can progress onto higher level courses such as City & Guilds Electrotechnical Certifcates 2330 Level 2 and 3 and embarking on the City & guilds 2382-10 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and Inspection & Testing Courses.
