Manchester Victoria College

MVC has a very different mission from other institutions. At MVC  we have:

• An expert knowledge of the UK education system.
• An international dimension. The management and the teaching staff all have experience of living and teaching outside the UK, which makes the college distinctive in its curriculum development and in its learning and teaching approaches.
• An educational philosophy which combines the structured and disciplined learning of our students’ home countries with the open and creative learning environment of the UK.  Students who are not exposed to this ‘blending’ often find it very difficult to cope with their studies in the UK.

Our principal educational aim at MVC is to produce confident, self-reliant, autonomous leaners with a great thirst for knowledge and desire for success.

The lecturers at MVC all come from extremely strong academic backgrounds, and some have left prestigious jobs at UK universities because they believe that a smaller college such as MVC offers a wonderful opportunity  for providing an excellent learning environment for students. At MVC the lecturers are able to use the best teaching methods and materials so as to help students achieve their full potential. 

In addition, every member of staff is fully sensitive to the needs of each individual student and is therefore able to offer a truly personal and unique service. 

MVC exists only to educate students for whom English is not their mother tongue.  All the lecturers are highly skilled at teaching overseas students, and the experienced lecturers of English for Academic Purposes work closely with the other subject teachers to ensure that students on their  courses develop the essential skills they need, whether they decide to continue studying at MVC, or to take a course at one of the local or national universities.

The location of MVC makes it an ideal place in which to study, as well as to enjoy Manchester’s main attractions. MVC is only a short bus ride from the vibrant city centre, but the Old Trafford district in which it is situated contains much more affordable accommodation, and people from all over the world live side by side with British families.  Students who might feel overwhelmed by life in the city centre may feel much more comfortable living in the pleasant residential areas around the college.

Manchester offers students plenty of opportunities to pursue different leisure and cultural activities: To the north of Manchester lies the beautiful English Lake District, an ideal place for hill walking or just enjoying its many lakeside views. To the east is the Derbyshire Peak District, which also offers perfect countryside for walking, or just enjoying the many traditional English tea shops. To the west of Manchester is the port city of Liverpool with its long-established musical heritage, magnificent cathedrals and the Tate and Walker art galleries. To the north of Liverpool, there are excellent walks along the Formby to Southport coastline.     

MVC is ideally situated to allow you to visit famous places nearby such as Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United and the Lancashire County Cricket Club, the Imperial War Museum North, the Bridgewater Hall concert venue, Chinatown, the John Rylands Library, the Royal Exchange Theatre, Granada TV studios, the Lowry Arts Centre, the Science and Industry Museum, Manchester Town Hall and the Manchester Aquatics Centre.
