Description

This study day is designed to prepare/update carers who are working in all categories of health care and who administer medicines. The day is suitable for both registered and unregistered carers, who dispense medication or assist residents with their own medication or who come into contact with medication.

The study day will be facilitated by Lecturers/Trainers who work in both Higher Education/University and Clinical Practice.

This study day fulfills the requirements of Skills for Care; Knowledge Set for Medication (January 2006)

- Methods of supplying and/or administration of medicines.
- Storage and transportation of medication.
- Standards for practice of administration of medicines.
- Complementary and alternative therapies.
- Controlled Drugs.
- Transcribing.
- Dispensing.
- Standards for Self-administration – children and young people environments.
- Preparing medication in advance.
- Aids to support compliance.
- Student nurse and student midwives.
- Unregistered practitioners.
- Disposal of medicinal products.
- Management of adverse events (errors or incidents) in the administration of medicines.
- Reporting adverse reactions.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
