History
Individual courses and programmes are accredited by recognised awarding bodies including Edexcel, and the Association of Tourism and Hospitality Management (ATHE).
Our Strategic Intent
Our vision for the next 10 years is for the college to deliver outstanding academic and training services and to play an important role in the local and international community in championing individual rights and opportunities in education, training and general learning.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to make available resources and facilities to provide positive and significant contribution to all areas of Education and learning including boosting foundation knowledge and skills, pre-employment education and training and providing an avenue for further and higher education.
Corporate Goals
The college identifies the following main goals:
- Provide a range of further and higher education courses, vocational and professional schemes, and life-long learning opportunities in subject areas such as Business studies, Information technology, Languages, social sciences, etc.
- Contribute to the creation of and access to knowledge through research and provision of information needed in society.
- Promote and support the use of information and learning technologies to provide viable on-line resources and alternatives to learning and further education.
- Extend further and higher education and skills development to those students from disadvantaged ethnic minorities at affordable prices.
- Attract, recruit, retain and develop staff with expertise, experience and competence in their chosen fields to share and help promote the vision and commitment of the college
- To provide effective student counseling and motivational programs that recognise individual needs and differences in learning and to ensure student retention, successful course completion and where applicable, employability.
- To achieve excellence in the quality of delivery of learning and education.
Learning culture and Knowledge
The college employs a combination of methods both for teaching and students learning assessments. Among the learning strategies employed are:
Going beyond the 'white board' teaching approach to using Power Point presentations, overhead projection, flip charts and other teaching aids.
Use of classroom presentations, group work and other activities that create challenge and motivation for learning.
Use of research by directing students to sources of information and Knowledge rather than focusing on lectures only.
Promoting the use of modern systems and technology in learning for both staff and students. Students are encouraged to access online resources.
Practical knowledge and demonstration requiring students to complete a project paper as part of the application of knowledge.
Use of case study approach to teaching. Cases are drawn from real world events thereby linking knowledge to real life issues in society.
International nature/design or courses.
We will deliver our courses to reflect not only the National but International learning quality and standards underpinned by the following:
Knowledge is universal and our courses reflect the wider perspectives applicable to the international community. General principles – whether in management, marketing, accounting, information technology or other fields equip the student with the basic knowledge and understanding to appreciate the wider issues of human society.
Our courses also reflect and encourage students to apply learning and knowledge to the context of their societies – their respective countries of origin. To this end students are encouraged to use examples, cases and previous knowledge related to their local societies.
Students in the UK are encouraged to use local examples and materials. We provide UK cases first and EU cases next while linking up to international cases. In the UK we use UK textbooks and other UK learning materials. For courses with international awarding bodies we use the 'UK Stream/option' for teaching and examinations.
International students taking our Online courses are encouraged to use international resources, cases and material relevant to their local environment so as to match learning to the local job markets and other local interests.
