This course aims to ensure that you grasp the essential design principles at an early stage. Make samples, undertake individual projects in fabric, rug-weaving, tapestry, braids or spinning.
Additional costs are incurred for course materials.

If you have a notebook, A4 ringbinder, tape measure and scissors please bring them but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class. KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed. All equipment is supplied.

Course Aim & Objective:
Introduce you to basic design principles. You will develop comprehensive grounding in a 4/8 shaft loom weaving/tapestry, braid and spinning techniques.
You will work on your own agreed projects.
Assessment:
Assessment is continuous. Question and Answer and discussion.
Course Syllabus:
Work on individual projects in a workshop environment. Learn a range of techniques from your chosen specialism (Fabric weaving, rug weaving, spinning, braids or tapestry
Techniques will include:
- Fabric and rug weaving for 4 & 8 shaft looms
- Pattern drafting
- Finishing techniques
- Mechanics of the 4 shaft table and floor loom
- Spinning singles, plied and fancy yarns on the spinning wheel
- Drop spindle spinning
- Japanese and Peruvian braids
- Flat woven and textured tapestry techniques
