Passementerie has a wide application in upholstery, interior design, soft furnishings and for pure decoration. Learn professional tassel making techniques, explore colour and design in relation to tassels, ropes and braids. This course aims to give you a comprehensive grounding in tassel-making techniques, beaded tassels, Chinese tassels and Japanese Kumihimo braid and principles of design to facilitate project work

General & First Session:
If you have a notebook, A4 file, small and large sharp scissors, tape measure/ruler and comb please bring them, but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class. KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed.
Yarns can be purchased from the tutor.
Course Aim & Objective:
You wiil gain a comprehensive grounding in a wide range of tassel-making techniques and principles of working designs.
Assessment:
Assessment is continuous throughout the course by question and answer and by completion of set tasks.
Course Syllabus:
You will learn a range of professional hand made tassel and braiding techniques, study design principles and produce a range of samples.
Techniques will include:
- Needle and glued methods for covering tassel moulds
- Wired skirts and overskirts
- Bullion skirts
- Cut velvet ruffs and looped ruffs
- Netting techniques
- Simple and compound ropes
- Tassel tie-backs
- Soft tassel techniques
- Decorative embellishments
- Inkle braids
- Decorative knots
