You will need 2 years to cover the syllabus.

The A2 level covers literature, the geography of Italy and current social and political issues.  (It is possible to sit the examination after one year.)  During the first year we concentrate mostly on discussion of current affairs, and you have the opportunity to re-sit some or all units of the 'AS' examination.  Examination costs are included in published course fees.

If you have pen, notebook/paper and a file please bring them but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class.  KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed.

Course Aim & Objective: 

This class covers the areas necessary for the first year A-level course, for example topics of current interest, literature, translations, oral/discussion work etc.  Points of grammar are revised and some homework is required.

By the end of this course each of you should have improved his/her knowledge of Italian in the four learning skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking and you will:

  • Analyse in depth all aspects of the Italian language
  • Stimulate your interest in the wider aspects of the Italian culture and society
  • Converse confidently with a native speaker about past events, current affairs and a wide range of topics related to everyday life and society in general
  • Develop your competence in sustaining/contradicting opinions, organizing deductively your speech and referring to facts

You will be able to:

  • Compare people, places and things
  • Express commands and polite request
  • Express opinions and doubts
  • Describe the distant past
  • Report what others have said
  • Make negative statement/contradict
  • Talk about hypothetical situations
  • Use the passive form

Assessment: 

Different methods of assessment are used to ensure learners' progress, in particular class discussion and written homework.  Observation, role-plays, Q&A, Questionnaires, Multiple choices, filling in the gaps, discussion, student presentation and tests for the four skills

Progression: 

Second year of A2 Italian which prepares you for A-level exams.  (If you wish, they may sit the Italian A-level exam after this first year or re-sit some or all units of the AS examination.)

We mainly follow the Italian specification, EDEXCEL publication (A2 syllabus).
