Figurative class: soft plastic wrapping (dry cleaners bags are perfect).  Any wood tools you may already have.

Course Aim & Objective: 

Introduce figurative sculpture and develop creative ability in both portrait and full-form medium.

Produce figurative piece (working from a live model) and hollow and fire it.

Assessment:  Through discussion and observation of work in class.  Question & Answer sessions.

We will recognise and record your progress and achievement through attainment of the following course goals:

  • Develop skills using wood sculpture tools.
  • Develop skills working with clay. 
  • Increase working pace to retain essence of pose.
  • Create maquettes efficiently and effectively.
  • Model from life model creating a likeness of the pose.
  • Developing awareness of proportion.
  • Hollowing out of models, which will then be dried for firing.


Progression:  Other KAE Ceramics courses.

Course Syllabus: 

An exploration of the human form.  Learn how to produce figurative work in clay using a life model, then hollow and fire the piece.  Explore all the techniques necessary to create an individual and vibrant piece.  Developing skills and knowledge for figurative sculpture is an ongoing process and can be continued for as long as you wish.
