This course covers all aspects of coloured glass and mirror work. Learn design, cutting, leading and soldering to enable you to create your own stained glass panes, windows, lampshades and decorations.

A small charge will be made at the first class to cover the cost of materials. Additional costs will be incurred for the materials used during the course.

Learner & Entry Requirements:

No experience necessary.

Please do not wear sandals.

General & First Session:

If you already have writing equipment and paper to make notes, please bring them but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class. Tutor provides glass cutters and practice glass.

Course Aim & Objective:

To introduce you to all aspects of stained glass. A practical course enabling you to make glass panes,windows, lampshades or decorations for youselves.

The main course objective is to develop your creative ability by developing a design and translating it into a glass project. To develop an awareness of stained glass, both contemporary and historical, and learn practical skills for both making and decorating stained glass. To help you acquire the necessary techniques and skills to accomplish the project you wish to complete, from a front door panel to 3-D boxes and lampshades.

Assessment:

Individual tuition and monitoring, discussion, observation and Questions and Answers.

Course Syllabus:

The tutor will demonstrate a wide variety of making and decorating techniques.

Beginners: Learn the processes of making a small leaded panel. You will receive handouts, an introduction to stained glass, a set of safety rules, description of tools used and a guide to cutting glass. You will be taken through designing, choosing the appropriate glass, drawing the cartoon, cutting and leading, soldering and cementing.

Intermediates: You will be encouraged to develop your ideas, through simple set projects. You may wish to concentrate on one aspect of stained glass.
