General & First Session: If you already have general ceramic tools and notebook, please bring them, but do not purchase them specifically for the course until after the first class. KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, equipment or books if the course is subsequently closed. You are advised to wear old clothes and an apron.
Course Aim & Objective:
Gain a good grounding in construction, decoration and glazing techniques in order to make your own handmade ceramics.
Develop your creative abilities by working with clay. Develop an awareness of ceramics and acquire the practical skills for both making and decorating ceramics. By the end of the course you should have made 2 or 3 ceramic pieces by hand-building or throwing.
Assessment:
Visual assessment of ceramic forms made.
We will recognise and record your achievement and achievement through attainment of the following goals.
- Ability to construct a clay form to high standard
- Ability to decorate a surface with ceramic materials
- Knowledge of ceramic materials and methods of application
- Ability to be inventive and creative in using clay
