Course Aim & Objective:
Gain a good grounding in construction, decoration and glazing
techniques in order that you can make your own handmade
pottery.
Develop your creative abilities by working with clay, develop an awareness of pottery and acquire practical skills for both making and decorating pottery. By the end of the course you should have achieved the completion of several pieces by hand-building or throwing.
Assessment:
Continuous assessment by observation of ceramic forms made.
Progression:
Ceramic Workshop or other course at KAE.
Course Syllabus:
Explore and develop your own creative ideas using clay. Cover many
aspects of pottery, gain practical skills & develop ideas.
First half hour of each session usually tutors demonstration of a
particular area of pottery, e.g. hand-building, using coils and
slabs, various methods of decorating, throwing on the potters
wheel, and health and safety. Examples shown appropraite to learner
needs. Set projects using techniques of coil and slabbed pottery,
pinch pots and modelling. Develop your own individual ideas using
these techniques.
