Gain a good grounding in construction, decoration and glazing techniques, whilst developing your creative abilities working with clay, in order to make your own handmade ceramics.

Learner & Entry Requirements:
No experience or technical skill required.

General & First Session:
If you already have an apron, please bring it, but do not purchase it specifically for the course until after the first class. KAE is unable to offer refunds for any materials, books or equipment if the course is subsequently closed.

Course Aim & Objective:
Gain a good grounding in construction, decoration and glazing techniques in order to make your own pottery pieces. Develop your creative abilities by working with clay. Develop an awareness of pottery and acquire practical skills for both making and decorating pottery.

By the end of the course you should have achieved the completion of several ceramic pieces by hand-building or throwing.

Assessment:
Tutor observation and achievements in finished work.

  • Ability to decorate a surface with a variety of ceramic materials
  • Knowledge of ceramic materials and methods of application
  • Ability to design and complete a complex form
  • Ability to be inventive and creative in using clay
  • Maintaining a sketch /note book with ideas, designs, materials
