Broad brush painting
Various broad brush techniques and methods will be demonstrated and practiced focusing on a number of artists both contemporary and old masters including: Edward Wesson, John Sergeant, John Marin and Edward Seago. It will be a relaxed, but focused atmosphere encouraging development of learner skills in this exciting impressionist style of painting.
Entry requirementsSome experience in watercolour would be an advantage.
What you will need for your first sessionWatercolour, Acrylic, Gouache. Bring images gained from websites, photocopies, postcards, photos or books if possible.

Suggested List of Material for Broad Brush Painting
Workshop:
This is mainly focusing on Watercolour based methods, but other
waterbased media can be used including Acrylic or Gouache.
Supports:Several sheets of good stout watercolour paper of your choice, such as 300gms Bockingford or similar.
Useful Colours:Winsor Yellow, Cobalt or Ultramarine blue, Indigo, Permanent Rose, Cadmium red, Viridian, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre, Cerulean Blue, Light Red and Burnt Umber.
Other Useful Items:
- 2" or minimum 1" suare nylon or natural hair brush, could be a hake or other large brush of your choice
- Sketchpad sponge
- Wax candle
- Tissues

Subjects, techniques, methods covered:The course will include a slide show, discussion, demonstration and practice using a range of techniques including wet in wet and employing large brushes and working fast!
