This one year programme will be delivered in our new Samsung Experience Academy which where students will work with the latest high tech technology products from 3D LED Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, 3D surround sound systems, PCs and a wide range of Smart hand held devices. Birmingham Metropolitan College has excellent links with the technology industry sector through Samsung Electronics UK, key national companies including Dixons Retail, PC World, Currys, BSkyB, CEDIA Group, John Lewis and the Premier Samsung Service Network UK-wide.

Course content

Students will complete the following units: • Working safely and effectively in engineering • Interpreting and using engineering information • Mathematics for engineering technicians • Electronic devices and communication applications • Operation and maintenance of electronic systems and components – Samsung Smart devices • Electronic circuit construction • PC hardware and software installation and configuration • Mobile communication technology – home audio/video wireless networking Smart devices

You will: • Learn how to network and stream audio/video with over 39 of the latest Samsung home technology Smart products • Learn how to carry out fault diagnostics and repair on a wide range of SMART technology devices • Learn the latest technologies in 3D, LCD, LED display device, 3D surround sound systems • Learn how to construct, test and fault diagnose electronic circuits, work with the latest digital surface mount technology soldering kit All students on the course will also develop the essential employability skills to enter employment. Using the latest video conference facilities, students will have the opportunity to interact with employers around the world.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs at grade D, to include English, Mathematics and Science at grade D or above as a minimum, plus a course interview.

Progression

Progression/Employment Opportunities Apprenticeships within the Digital Electronics Technology Sector or progression on to the Level 3 Smart Digital Technologies and Diagnostics (Extended Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering).
