This course is one of the pathway choices for Level 3 Animal Management. In the first year you will complete a Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Animal Management together with additional qualifications in agriculture and countryside. The pathway aims to provide you with additional knowledge and qualifications to enhance your prospects of employment or further study either directly within the animal industry or transfer to a similar industry. You have the option to “top up” to an extended diploma in animal management by returning for a second year or transfer across to agriculture/ countryside management.

Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma animal managementunits include:

Animal biology
Animal handling and safe working
Animal accommodation and feeding
Animal behaviour and communication
Understand and promote animal health
Breeding and genetics

Level 2 Extended Certificate in agriculture untis include:
Introduction to farm animal production
Estate maintenance
Conservation and improvement of British habitats
(Plus tractor driving!)

Level 2 Practical, environmental and conservation skills
Health and safety
Footpath and surfacing skills
Fencing

NB – All units are subject to change

Four days a week at college to include a mix of lectures, demonstrations and practical work.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs Grade C or above - to include English Language, Science and Maths or Level 2 qualification in animal care with distinction plus level 2 functional skills . Recent experience in an animal care establishment is essential.
