Description

This course provides the knowledge and understanding required for the modern dairy worker. It will also introduce and develop key practical skills. All learners considering this course are encouraged to contact the course tutor to discuss the programme.

Learners have the option to undertake the Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Agriculture qualification for an additional fee of £300 unless they are eligible for fee remission. Eligibility criteria also applies to this option. the Level 3 Diploma also includes assessments on a dairy farm.

Course Content

This is a 27 day course taught over 8 months and covers:

  • Milking
  • Selecting breeding stock
  • Rearing young stock
  • Controlling health and disease, including lameness
  • Maintaining fertility
  • Feeding dairy cows
  • Keeping necessary records and meeting legislative requirements
  • Housing and waste management

The course includes practical skills development, including training towards the NPTC Certificates of Competence − ML4 Milking and Safe Use of Veterinary Medicines.

Entry Requirements

Normally Level 2 Diploma in work-based Agriculture / NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
