British Horse Society (BHS) Stage 2 Horse Knowledge, Care & Riding - RIDING

The riding training programme may be taken with the stable management or separately. Learners need to have already gained a basic, balanced and secure riding position as required in Stage 1 and should be capable of jumping small fences.

Course Content

Our British Horse Society Stage 2 stable management training programme is an excellent progression from the Stage 1 course. It will give you a thorough understanding of general management and requirements of horses' health and well being. It is a very practical course which allows you to develop both the skills and knowledge to care for both grass kept and stabled horses during all seasons.

Riding:

• Working to improve balance and security
• Ride school figures using the correct aids
• Ride safely in company
• Ride independently in walk, trot and canter, with and without stirrups
• Jumping position
• Jump a course of fences

Stable Management:

• Horse behaviour
• Stable design
• Watering and feeding
• Shoeing
• Grooming
• Clipping
• Saddlery
• Anatomy and physiology
• Horse health
• Lungeing

There is an opportunity to take a mock and/or BHS Stage 2 exam. Entry to BHS exams should be directly to the British Horse Society via www.bhs.org.uk

Entry Requirements

Enthusiasm and willing to learn new skills. For riding - completion of the BHS Stage 1 riding. Weight limit for riding is 13.5 stones.
