Masters Level Module

The module aims to develop participants understanding concerning the relationship between theory and practice in urban primary schools. The links between theory and practice are used to increase awareness of and familiarity with contemporary debates of policy and practice as they relate to urban schools and classrooms as well as to critically explore educational research and policy and its impact on the schools, teachers, pupils and community(ies) in urban settings. By participating in the module students will be enabled to demonstrate the critical and analytical skills to reflect upon and improve their professional practice and understand the contribution of educational theory and the impact of contemporary education policy to current practice in urban primary schools. By the end of the module participants will have gained a wider appreciation of the problems, conflicts and contradictions associated with teaching and learning in urban classrooms.
