They will develop their theoretical and analytical skills in learning to critique current professional practice with children. In particular the focus will be on adult-child relationships in professional and work contexts, including education, health, social care and the law. Participants will develop the ability to attend to children's interests, views and rights, and to recognise and foster children's competence in their own lives. This will include critical debates about international children's rights conventions and their applicability in different contexts. The module is taught as a one-week (five day) block in between the spring and summer terms, to enable professionals from different disciplines, including overseas workers, to attend. Tutorial and study support will be offered through evening sessions and directed reading.
