This BA programme provides the opportunity to:
- exit at relevant points with an undergraduate certificate (after one year full-time), diploma of higher education (after two years full-time), or BA Ordinary degree (if you choose not to write a dissertation)
- pursue educational questions in an informed, disciplined and critical way.
Who is this programme for?
Individuals with an interest in education. The programme is also relevant to those interested in working with children and young people in schools and educational settings, social care and social inclusion, vocational education, hospital education, healthcare, prison education, education in the community, international development work with the elderly or home schooling. This programme does not lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Entry requirements
You will normally require 160 to 200 UCAS tariff points (for example, A levels, BTEC, Cache Diploma or similar qualifications undertaken at Level 3). We may consider applicants with alternative experience, who may be required to submit a qualifying essay. Your application should also demonstrate an interest in education, the humanities and social sciences.
How are you assessed?
By coursework, examination, portfolio and dissertation.
Careers information
On completion, students may decide to pursue a career in the education sector or in professions requiring degree level qualifications in the humanities and social sciences. Alternatively they may study for a postgraduate certificate of education to qualify as a teacher or pursue a further course of study in education research at Masters or Doctoral level.
